Annotation
Geoinformatics fulfils an important bridging function between computer science, geographic information technologies and geosciences or spatially related sciences. Main areas of work and research include geoinformation systems (GIS) and specialist information systems derived therefrom, as well as 3D GIS and Mobile GIS, OpenGIS and interoperability between GIS and standard software, development of spatial data infrastructures, multimedia applications in geosciences, especially geoinformation systems and visualisation of geodata on the Internet, Computer Aided Cartography and Digital Cartography, Databases and Metadatabases for Spatial Issues, Satellite Assisted Navigation and Positional Positioning (GPS) Determination and Related Digital Terrain Data Acquisition and Digital Image Processing of Remote Sensing Data. The master program Geoinformatics offers a strong research-oriented education, which is achieved by integrating current geoinformatics research projects in courses. These projects are in the fields of Geographic Information Systems / Geodatabases or Remote Sensing / Image Processing, depending on your potential specialisation. In particular, the possibility of specialising in remote sensing is a unique selling point. The master's degree opens up the possibility of obtaining a doctorate and, if the study program is appropriate / the respective prerequisites are available, access to any doctoral studies \; accordingly according to the PhD program Informatics at the University of Osnabrück. The degree also qualifies for public and private sector activities \; in the segments of surveying, spatial planning, environment, agricultural structure, supply and disposal, geodata information and geomarketing, traffic and tourism, location and radio network planning, software and hardware manufacturing or in the insurance industry.
