Why do some societies sink into chaos while others are doing well? How is it that some countries become rich and others remain poor? And why do women still earn less than men? With the instruments of sociology you will learn to answer these questions. The main subject of Sociology is an application- and practice-oriented field of study which trains you in the methods and techniques of social science work and gives you access to current and original fields of sociological practice (e.g. inequality research, violence/safety research and critical ecology) by interlocking theoretically ambitious sociology with applied methodology training. After completing the main subject of Sociology, students are able to provide a general overview of the causes and consequences of social developments, to classify them within the framework of different theoretical perspectives and to reflect on their own perspective. An integral part of the degree course is the MarSkills programme, in which you acquire attractive and future-oriented key skills (see https://www.uni-marburg.de/de/fb09/igs/arbeitsgruppen/sprechwissenschaft/marskills/was-ist-marskills).
