Annotation
Combined Bachelor’s degree with choice of minor subject. See the link on the degree course page for the list of optional minor subjects. Translating Middle High German texts, reinterpreting classics of literary history or analysing digital messages in social media linguistically – all this is part of the curriculum in German studies at the University of Kassel. The broad spectrum of the Bachelor's degree course scores points with practical relevance and, as a first step, conveys basic knowledge in linguistics, literature and media studies as well as key competences in communication and scientific methodology. Later, an elective module is added, which enables specialisations in the professional field. For the BA degree course in German Studies, it is suitable to have not only perseverance but also a desire to read and to communicate, as well as a special interest in language. In addition to the promotion of individual expressive skills, language use and analysis are fundamental learning topics. In addition, German scholars like to look beyond the horizon and also work with the findings of neighbouring disciplines – from philosophy and history to psychology and pedagogy to neuroscience or gender research. Part-time study is quite possible due to the course of study in this degree programme. Upon request, you can register for part-time studies in accordance with Section 19 (2) Hesse Higher Education Act (HessHG). The specific provisions for part-time studies will then apply. Counselling by the subject-specific student advice service is recommended.
