Annotation
For the degree course in Culture of the Ancient World, the four academic disciplines of Classical Archaeology, Ancient History, Latin and Greek are combined in a comprehensive Classical Studies course, which is oriented towards cultural history. The ability to comprehend and work within networked structures is taught through the inter-disciplinary structure of the course. By linking different specialist discourses with their various methods, issues, perspectives, media and research results, which is continually required in the course of study, you will learn to integrate personal and unfamiliar positions and to present and communicate across perspectives. Engagement with the ancient civilisation in its literary, material and historical forms and its socio-cultural correlations promotes an awareness of the 'other' and the 'foreigner' and develops the ability to make assessments in a critical, historically-informed and cross-cultural manner. Through the overlapping topics in the core subject modules, texts, historical sources and archaeological materials are brought together in order to learn how to better understand the ancient world.
