Annotation
The central content of the subject is the literary legacy of Greek antiquity in its various cultural contexts, the methodology and linguistic competence necessary for working out and communicating this legacy, and an insight into its later reception. Words, images, motifs, thoughts, and systems of Greek literature are part of everyday social and basic knowledge. The study of Greek philology deepens and expands this knowledge, gives it a cultural-historical foundation and imparts the ability to pass it on in an informed and competent manner. Greek Philology can be studied in the degree course History and Cultural Studies (GuK) at the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen as 1st semester. Major subject: 80 CP + Thesis, second Major subject: 70 CP, first minor subject: 40 CP or as second minor subject: 30 credit points.
