Target group
Students who are interested and keen to work together with fellow students and teachers in an open and committed teaching and research environment on exciting questions from a wide variety of areas of linguistics, to develop individual questions and to implement them independently in a theoretically and methodically sound manner; Students who are interested in the German language itself, in the acquisition and change of language, in linguistic diversity and in language as the most important medium of communication.
Admission requirements
The degree programme requires a Bachelor's academic degree or a comparable academic degree with at least 72 credit points in German Studies or General and Comparative Linguistics. If less than 72 but at least 40 points are available, the missing credits can be made up in the first year of study.

Those who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification abroad should have their certificates recognised early on via the Student Services (https://www.studium.uni-mainz.de/anerkennung). The application should be submitted six to eight weeks before the respective application deadline, as the certificate of recognition must be attached to the application. Application deadline for degree courses subject to an aptitude test is 15.01. – please note the possibly earlier registration deadlines for the aptitude test.
