Annotation
The subject 'American Studies' can be selected as a core or a minor in the two-subject Bachelor of Arts course (core subject / minor subject). The subject 'American Studies' in combination with the compulsory subject French can also be studied in the integrated German-French course with a binational degree (see https://www.studium.uni-mainz.de/internationale-masterstudiengaenge// ). Admission requirements
Mandatory “Practical Language Entrance Test" (Common European Framework of Reference C 1). Students who fail the test may not take part in the exercises of the basic modules GMK I-IV, GMB I,II and GME I-III (BA American Studies and British Studies) or modules 1 and 2 (BA Teaching Qualification). However, they are permitted to attend Lectures 124 and 133 as well as Introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language. The test can be repeated in either of the two following semesters. Students may also provide proof of their command of English through equivalent language certificates. The following documentation is accepted as substitutes for the practical language entrance test: - Certificate in Advanced English (provider: Cambridge ESOL; Minimum grade: C) - Certificate of Proficiency in English (provider: Cambridge ESOL; Minimum grade: C) - Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL; Providers: Educational Testing Service) The test results must be no more than two years old in all cases.
