Annotation

At the Hochschule der Bundesbank in Hachenburg (Westerwald), students acquire an extensive knowledge of Economics and Law, with specialisations in Banking, Financial Systems and Monetary Policy. In the practical modules, they work in different fields within a central bank and therefore put their theoretical knowledge to direct use in the head office, central administration buildings, and subsidiaries. Throughout the 3 years of study, they receive trainee stipends, which are increased to include a special supplement if the student has banking experience. The accredited sandwich course that focuses on business administration starts on 1 October or 1 April and lasts 3 years. Theoretical and practical phases are alternated and are closely interlinked. The theoretical subjects are taught at the university over a total of 22 months in blocks of approx. 6 months each. The practical studies that last several weeks at a time are spent in subsidiaries, central administration buildings and the headquarters of the Bundesbank in Frankfurt. In certain circumstances, students also have the opportunity to independently arrange and complete a 5 to 7-week placement outside the Bundesbank, either in Germany or another European country. This includes institutions such as a foreign central bank, a supervisory body or an international organisation. Upon successful completion of the degree, the academic degree of Bachelor of Science is awarded. Graduates also receive a professional qualification for executive banking.
