Target group

When you decide to study philosophy in Tübingen, you opt for one of the most traditional and, at the same time, liveliest institutes in Germany. In philosophy, the beliefs and methods of tradition are never completely replaced by modern thinking. Instead, the beginnings of philosophical thought already comprised the framework from which, over two and a half millennia, the sciences and today’s sub-disciplines of philosophy have emerged with increasingly precise instruments. The lively exchange between tradition and modernity is a special feature of the University and the Philosophical Seminar in Tübingen. The Philosophical Seminar offers a research-oriented Master’s programme, which gives you a great deal of freedom in the selection of your research topics. In advanced seminars and discussion groups you prepare comprehensively for participation in the current discussions in philosophy. Our key areas in teaching and research are: Antiquity and the Middle Ages Kant and German Idealism Analytical Metaphysics and Philosophy of the Mind Ethics, Meta-ethics, Theory of Emotions Philosophy of Science and its history Philosophy of Logic In addition, our range of courses in collaboration with professors, private lecturers and lecturers covers the entire spectrum of Classic and Modern Philosophy.
