Target group
Geoecology is a system-oriented, interdisciplinary science that aims at exploring biological, chemical and physical processes of the geo- and biosphere as well as how they are connected. The M.Sc. in Geoecology is a research-oriented course of study\; it is based on a natural science foundation and offers a particularly wide range of courses in the fields of biology and geosciences. Teaching concept and course contents Students deepen their understanding of natural and anthropogenically influenced environmental systems and can thus describe and quantify the material and energy that take place in them. Thanks to their broad scientific education, geoecologists can identify environmental problems arising from the human use of the Earth’s ecosystem and develop sustainable solutions. They apply natural sciences and mathematical methods, taking into account planning and economic aspects. Academic profile of the department Research-centred professorships ensure a wide range of interesting dissertations, also in cooperation with international partners. The following are the key research areas in geoecology: • Biogeochemistry • Ecotoxicology and pollutant research • Ecology and nature conservation • Palaeoecology and palaeoclimate • System modelling These research areas can be studied by means of advanced courses (core modules) as specialisations. Five good reasons for studying Geoecology in Tübingen: • A modern, interdisciplinary course of study at one of the largest and best known institutes for environmental and geosciences in Germany • Teaching in small groups with motivated lecturers • Best study conditions in newly renovated buildings and laboratories • Internationally renowned research with many contacts at home and abroad • A wider range of Master’s theses and a variety of doctoral options.
