Annotation

The German-language Master's degree programme in Urban Studies (M.Sc.) is research-oriented. It focuses on the scientific examination of questions of urban and regional planning as well as spatial development. Urbanism understands space as a sphere that is produced by very different determinants. Accordingly, urban research must take into account urban planning, functional, political, social, cultural and economic aspects in changing constellations. The MSc course in Urbanism pursues a dual goal. Scientific knowledge and research methods are taught that enable young professionals to pursue a doctorate. They also qualify young professionals who will work in demanding field of planning and want to shape cities, landscapes and regions in a sophisticated and responsible manner – whether in a planning office, administration, university or research institution in the field of urban/spatial research and planning sciences. The MSc course in Urban Studies benefits from the strong research focus of the participating chairs. The ongoing research of the junior research group "Social Housing Provision in Growing Urban Regions: Urban Planning and Legal Perspectives", the DFG Research Training Group "Identity and Heritage" and the Marie Curie Research Project "History of European Urban Planning in the 20th Century" is incorporated into the teaching.
