Annotation

This inter-disciplinary course of study primarily deals with questions as to how the European Union is evolving into a new political system, the way in which national political, economic and social systems transform under the influence of European integration and what role the European Union plays in the international arena. In this way, the main focus is on political and social processes of European integration, mainly taught from Political Science perspectives. In addition, a minor from a wide range of subjects can be chosen with which, depending on personal interests, sociological, economic, legal, historic, geographical, educational or cultural studies key areas can be chosen. The first year consists of four compulsory modules in which, in addition to introductions to the European integration process as well as the economy and society in Europe, basic knowledge of the methods of empirical social research and of the political science sub-disciplines is taught. From the second year of study, five in-depth modules provide knowledge of political, economic and social transformation processes within the European Union and the role of Europe in the international system. The course includes numerous options for individual specialisation: in the optional required subjects and the free range of options, due to freely conceived modules, to the choice of subsidiary subject, a work placement and a possible period of foreign study abroad. These special profile characteristics provide optimum conditions to become more acquainted with issues regarding European integration from both subject-specific, inter-disciplinary as well as international and professional perspectives. The Bachelor's degree qualifies students to enter a profession and for admission to a subject-related Master's course, including the Master's courses at the Universität Osnabrück in European Governance: Market-Power-Community, International Migration and Cross Cultural Relations, Political Science: Democratic Rule and Civilian Society, Sociology: Dynamics of Social Change, as well as, with the appropriate course planning, essentially for the Master's degree course in Literature and Culture in Europe.
