The Master's degree programme in Synthetic Biotechnology offers the opportunity to research and work at the forefront of modern life sciences. As a student, you will learn to manipulate genes, to understand and design biological systems, to develop artificial tissues and cells for medical applications and to analyse complex biological data. You will expand your knowledge in the areas of systems biology, bioengineering, synthetic biology and high-throughput analytics and gain insight into the safety aspects of these innovative disciplines. You can choose your study focus individually and, for example, delve into genome data science, animal models, soft skills or machine learning. Active participation in research projects is guaranteed. You will experience everyday scientific life up close and help shape it – both inside and outside the university.
Admission requirements
Bachelor's degree from the fields of (molecular/medical) biotechnology or related fields of study such as bioinformatics, biochemistry, biology and biomedicine. Applicants must have completed a course of study of at least 180 CP. The basic requirements are to complete the following modules: English for Engineers/Specialist English Physics General/ Organic Chemistry Mathematics Basic Computer Science Microbiology Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering Biochemistry Cell Biology Analytical Chemistry and/or Bioanalysis Grade 2.5 or better You can be provisionally admitted to the Master's degree programme before completing the Bachelor's degree programme if the Bachelor's thesis has been registered.
