Target group
The Master's degree 'Cultural Data Studies' is aimed at all students who have obtained a Bachelor's degree in any discipline of the humanities or social sciences and who would like to deal more intensively with questions of 'digitisation'. It doesn't matter whether you are more interested in the use of digital methods and working with data, or whether you want to understand the societal changes brought about by digitisation. The degree course is designed in such a way that you get to know both aspects, combine different perspectives and can set your own priorities.
Annotation
The Master's degree 'Cultural Data Studies' responds to the great need for digital methodological skills that can be observed in all scientific disciplines, as well as to the ever-advancing digital transformation of our society and the associated need for critical reflection on these processes. The course focuses on the handling of cultural data in the broadest sense - from the digitised artwork to social interactions on Twitter. The degree course imparts well-founded content-related, methodological and theoretical competences in the field of digital humanities and social sciences. Building on the previous disciplinary knowledge in the respective Bachelor's degree, students further develop their skills in dealing with digital data and learn humanities and social science methods for researching the digital or digitised world. The degree course pays particular attention to research practice. From the first semester onwards, students are introduced to the work of concrete research projects and scientific institutions.
Admission requirements
General admission requirements for the Master's degree are proof of completion of a relevant Bachelor's degree in the field of Humanities or Social Sciences or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign professional qualification.
