Target group
In an age of globalisation, not only in Economics and Politics, but also in the field of Culture which has led to ever-increasing networking, today Comparative Studies take on a new form of relevance. Its major subject is the international character of literature; its methodical principle, an interdisciplinary approach. It combines not only the fields of various individual philologies, but also touches on the issues of Cultural and Media Studies.
Annotation
If the Bachelor degree certificate is not available by the application deadline, but at least 135 credit points can be demonstrated: Submit a certificate of study and examinations and the average grade achieved so far. (This certificate must be issued by the relevant higher education institution, original or officially authenticated copy). After enrolment, the diploma must be submitted. If the degree was obtained abroad: officially authenticated copy of a certificate of recognition (responsible: Student Service - Admission International).
Admission requirements
Bachelor's degree from the Mainz Bachelor's degree course in Comparative Studies/European Literature, Bachelor's degree from another university in General and Comparative Literary Studies (Comparative Literature), Bachelor's degree with the philology of a foreign language as the core subject or Bachelor's degree in two individual philologies in the literatures of different languages. German language proficiency, the ability to read in English and a language from the Romance, Slavonic or Scandinavian languages; other literary languages may be admitted in individual cases. Foreign applicants from non-German-speaking countries must provide evidence of German proficiency at the level of the “German Language Test for Admission to Higher Education for Foreign Students” (DSH).
