Target group

Students wishing to be given the opportunity to conduct research-based work on the history of Eastern Europe and/or to conduct comparative analysis of international history while also gaining the corresponding language skills from the Eastern European region. Graduates of the MA programme Eastern European History are qualified for the international research-focused cultural and humanities labour market (international cultural relations, museums, NGOs with a strong research focus) or take up junior research positions in universities.

Annotation

The subject can be studied as a major or minor. It is based on a BA in Eastern European History and offers a strongly research-oriented alternative to the career-oriented MA. 'Eastern European Studies'. The students can specialise in regional and / or epochal research related to their language skills and their prior knowledge (East Central Europe, Russian Empire and Soviet Union, Southeastern Europe incl. Ottoman Empire).

Main subject Degree in History or a History-oriented discipline, with at least 55 CP in History modules; of these, at least one basic module and one advanced module must be dedicated to the period before 1750 and one to the period after 1750. Any knowledge lacking may be gained after commencing the degree course if necessary. b.) Minor subject Degree in History or a History-oriented discipline, with at least 55 CP in History modules; of these, at least one basic module and one advanced module must be dedicated to the period before 1750 and one to the period after 1750. Any knowledge lacking may be gained after commencing the degree course if necessary. For the major subjects Eastern European History and Slavonic Studies, very good proficiency in one of the languages from Eastern Europe on offer at the JLU is required.
