Target group
Graduates of relevant BA degree courses are offered a research-oriented further qualification. The subject provides in-depth knowledge of the material culture of Greek and Roman antiquity and offers problem-oriented access to the scientific methodology and the central working fields of the subject. At the same time current research discussions in the subject are reflected, also with regard to image science and theoretical media aspects. Furthermore, the students further extend their competence in scientifically dealing with visual media and the material culture of antiquity.
Annotation
The multi-subject degree programme has the profile of a research-oriented Master's. It offers the framework for the combination of different History, Philology and Cultural Studies-oriented subjects. The individual subjects can be combined with Philology subjects as well as with the subjects of Sociology, Political Science and Education.
Admission requirements
a.) Major subject Prerequisite is a degree in B.A. major subject Classical Archaeology in the B.A course History and Cultural Studies (GuK) in Ancient Cultures, or in the Bachelor's courses in which Classical Archaeology has been studied with at least 50 credit points. a.) Minor subject Prerequisite is the completion of Classical Archaeology at least as the first B.A. minor subject in the History and Cultural Studies study course, in the B.A. Ancient Cultures or in the Bachelor study courses with Classical Archaeology as study component of at least 40 CP. If there is any doubt regarding the relevance of the competences acquired in the BA, the examination committee shall decide in such cases. An oral examination may be required. Exceptions may be approved pending an oral examination by the Examination Board. Should a student be unable to prove the full amount of credit points that is set as a course requirement (e.g. if a minor subject with 30 credit points was studied in the BA), the Examination Board may allow the student to obtain these course requirements by attending BA modules in the required amount in addition to the Master's degree course, upon application by the student. Individual lectures or modules may be approved for students with topically and methodologically related degree courses, such as the MA in 'Religious Communication', without having to fulfil the above-mentioned course requirements. Language requirements: a.) Main subject: Latinum or Graecum in accordance with the course requirements of the Bachelor's degree in History and Cultural Studies b.) Minor subject: Latin and/or Greek knowledge is strongly recommended in accordance with the course requirements of the Bachelor's degree in History and Cultural Studies. Main and minor subject: Knowledge of at least two modern foreign languages in accordance with the regulations on second language knowledge in the course requirements of the Bachelor's degree in History and Cultural Studies. Proof should be provided before commencing studies, at the latest before the end of the 2nd semester.
