Annotation
For advanced students, specialisation is now required: Anyone who has passed a Bachelor's examination in Biology or an equivalent degree course will open the door to the subsequent Master's degree programme. Here, students at the University of Kassel have the opportunity to specialise their studies in individual design. One of three scientific focal points therefore has to be chosen: Cellular Molecular Biology, Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology or Environmental and Agricultural Biology. Through the opportunity to acquire individual key competences in deeper-reaching research at an international level, students create a distinctive and therefore sought-after professional profile. In contrast to the Bachelor's degree course, there are no admission restrictions in the Master's degree programme in Biology, which ends with the acquisition of the Master of Science (M.Sc.). Admission requirement is a passed bachelor's examination in Biology or an equivalent degree course in terms of subject. The standard period of study for the Master's degree programme is four semesters, including the Master's thesis and Master's colloquium. The Master's degree programme at the University of Kassel starts in the summer or winter semester. The course language is German, but proof of adequate English language skills must be provided at level B2. This is necessary for dealing with specialist literature and with regard to future professional activity. After successful completion, interesting career options in very different sectors and industries attract: In the pharmaceutical and food industry, with authorities, in zoological or botanical gardens, in natural history museums, in the area of environmental reports, in the monitoring of clinical studies or in scientific research. Many graduates use the M.Sc. in Biology as the basis for a possible doctorate and thus as a perfect springboard for a scientific career.
