Target group

The aim of the course is to provide students who have been adequately pre-trained in the subject Organ with the in-depth artistic skills, technical command of their instrument and career-relevant competencies they need for an artistic profession or career in the field of church music specialising in the organ for high-profile positions. Graduates will be able to perform a demanding concert programme on the organ with the emphasis on improvisation. They will also be able to fulfil the requirements for religious services as a creative improviser. They will be familiar with the key forms and styles of improvisation and a representative selection of works of organ literature.

Annotation

Applications are made via the Admission Office of the University Mainz. Registration for the aptitude test is via the University of Music. If the Bachelor degree certificate is not available by the application deadline, but at least 135 credit points can be proven: Submit a certificate of study and examinations and the average grade achieved so far. (This certificate must be issued by the relevant higher education, original or officially authenticated copy). After enrolment, the diploma must be submitted. If the degree was obtained abroad: Officially authenticated copy of a certificate of recognition (responsible: Student Service - Admission International).

Admission requirements

Bachelor's degree in Church Music, Organ or Organ Literature or a degree from a university in Germany or abroad, to which there is no significant difference. Pass the aptitude test (see https://www.musik.uni-mainz.de/studium/bewerbung/). For applicants who have not obtained their university entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution or a degree in a German-language course, proof of sufficient German language skills (comparable to level A1 CEFR) must be provided. This evidence is provided either by submitting appropriate test certificates or by talking to the examination committee as part of the aptitude test. If this proof is not provided at the latest when the course begins, the admission expires. Possibly. the examination committee recommends attending German courses in accordance with the respective language skills.
