Annotation
The results of international school performance studies, such as PISA, regularly trigger a large media response in Germany. This illustrates the importance of education in Germany and the importance of empirical educational research in the discussion about the further development of the German education system. However, large-scale school performance studies are only one example of studies of empirical educational research. Other studies, for example, investigate questions of educational and opportunity justice, analyse teaching and learning processes in schools, universities and continuing education, investigate extracurricular educational processes of children and adolescents or reconstruct the interactions of involved actors and structures of underlying processes. The four-semester master's degree programme in Empirical Educational Research at the Institute of Educational Science introduces students to current practice in empirical educational research and prepares them for responsible positions in both the university and non-university fields. In addition to tasks in research, the graduates course also opens up professional perspectives in the education administration and in evaluation, e.g. in the field of higher education and further education. The graduates of the degree course also include teachers, since the application of findings from empirical educational research is also of great relevance in school practice. The individual modules of the Master's degree programme provide students with theoretical, conceptual and research methodological skills. The focus of the degree course are the module Methods of Empirical Educational Research and the research internship, which serves many students as a springboard for employment after graduation and for a scientific career. The modules Educational Theory Education and Educational Reform Processes, School and Teaching Research as well as Research in Informal and Non formal Fields of Education provide theoretical foundations and offer interesting insights into current fields of application of empirical educational research. Upon successful completion of the degree course, graduates will be awarded the Master of Arts title, which entitles them to a doctorate.
