The degree course "Media Education: Audiovisual Culture and Communication" focuses on the current socio-technological change of digitalisation and mediatisation and the associated central importance of media – in particular, the field of education in a digital world. The focus is on digitally networked media and audiovisual media cultures and their social and individual importance for education and socialisation. The content of the MA in Media Education is reflected in the modules that make up the degree programme: Introduction to Educational Science Introduction to Computer Science, Algorithms and Data Structures Computer Science for Educational Courses Historical, philosophical and systematic aspects of the relationship between media and society Research methodologies, fields and methods Media in the Socio-Cultural Context Media in Learning and Education Processes In addition to educational and media science knowledge, students also acquire technological and computer science background knowledge as interdisciplinary skills during their studies. This specific combination makes a deeper understanding of digitalisation, mediatisation and education possible.

A professionally relevant first degree in the amount of at least 180 credit points with an overall grade of at least 'good' (2.5). A programme of study is deemed relevant if socially or educationally scientific subjects amounting to at least 30 CP are demonstrated in the major or minor subject, and if a media-scientific or media-educational focus is recognisable.
