Minor subject in the combination Bachelor's degree course - only possible in combination with a major subject Standard period of study: 6 or 8 semesters (depending on combination) The degree depends on the major subject chosen. Further information on the structure of the combination Bachelor's degree course can be found here: https://www.uni-marburg.de/de/studium/studieninteressierte/studienmoeglichkeiten/kombibachelor The minor subject "Historical Comparative Linguistics" offers you basic training in topics and methods of general and historical linguistics with a particular focus on language comparison and the reconstruction of the Indo-European basic language. As a result, you acquire the prerequisites for a more detailed study of a freely selectable Old Indo-European language (e.g. Old Indic, Latin, Hittite, Ancient Greek), on the basis of which you develop linguistic and philological approaches to historical textual evidence. By choosing the language, you can tailor your minor subject to your major subject or your personal interests. Afterwards, you can distinguish yourself even further with an additional Indo-European language, e.g. from the Comparative Linguistics Old Anatolia specialisation in Marburg. An integral part of the degree course is the MarSkills programme, in which you acquire attractive and future-oriented key skills (see https://www.uni-marburg.de/de/fb09/igs/arbeitsgruppen/sprechwissenschaft/marskills/was-ist-marskills).
