Annotation

The degree course "European Studies: Geography of Europe “deals with spatial development processes in Europe. In particular, different political, economic and social aspects, especially within the European Union and their geographical characteristics, are examined. Concepts from Geography and neighbouring sciences, for example, explain processes of economic and urban development or interpret interstate relations and migration movements. Students also learn about methods of social research and gain insights into how to use digital geographic information systems. In this way, they acquire subject-specific knowledge for the job market as well as for Master's courses in Human Geography or at the Saarland University specifically the Master in Border Studies. In addition to the specialist knowledge from Geography, the course “European Studies: Geographies of Europe" provides overview knowledge of European contexts. An interdisciplinary core area focuses on development processes, current trends and perspectives on Europe. Here, the disciplines of History, Politics, Law, Language, Literature and Media work together across disciplines and enable students to view and classify complex issues independently and critically. This idea of fundamentals plus specialisation is reflected in the structure of the entire Bachelor's degree course. In addition to the regular university events, language courses, an eight-week internship and a stay abroad (in the fifth semester) are also planned.
