Annotation

Combined Bachelor’s degree with choice of minor subject. See the link on the degree course page for the list of optional minor subjects. In a globally oriented world of work, it is becoming increasingly important to be familiar with the English language. However, the Bachelor's degree course "English and American Studies" focuses not only on the sovereign handling of the language, but also on the examination of the culture, literature and history of Great Britain and/or America. The degree course in English/American Studies covers regional and cultural studies as well as linguistics and literary studies. Language practice is just as important, which is why the courses are generally held in English, which requires very good language skills. A semester abroad in an English-speaking country is required. In addition, the course is combined with a minor subject. Anyone who speaks English with pleasure and is also interested in other cultures will have the best conditions for their degree course. Communication skills and a disciplined will to learn are also in demand. Admission to the degree course is not possible without proof of language proficiency - for example, the certificate of an internationally recognised language examination. Language certificates are also required for the minor subjects French or Spanish. Part-time study is quite possible due to the course of study in this degree programme. Upon request, you can register for part-time studies in accordance with Section 19 (2) Hesse Higher Education Act (HessHG). The specific provisions for part-time studies will then apply. Counselling by the subject-specific student advice service is recommended.
