Combined Bachelor’s degree with choice of minor subject. See the link on the degree course page for the list of optional minor subjects. The Bachelor´s degree course breadth of art history. You not only acquire basic skills in dealing with the methods of art science and art history, but also expand your knowledge through the practice-oriented orientation of the course. In addition to a professional qualification, the B.A. Academic degree also gives you access to a subsequent Master's degree. First, through introductory and basic modules, you gain knowledge about the epochs and developmental history of art, methods for analysing works as well as the principles of academic work. In the further course of the degree course, you can focus on an individually chosen topic focus that is oriented towards the research fields represented in the degree course. These include the painting of the 15th to 19th century, central questions of art theory and aesthetics, the development of the visual art of the 20th and 21st century as well as the modern art and museum history. The Bachelors degree course in Art Theory will be completed with a topic of your choice. Seminars and lectures of the Art Science course are usually held at the art school Kassel, which contributes to the personal atmosphere within the course and promotes the individual support of the students. At the same time, you benefit from the immediate proximity to artistic and design courses of study by visiting one of the 14 study workshops and taking courses there. Excursions to national and international museums and related exercises in front of original works of art are also part of your studies. In addition, exhibitions or publications are realized in interdisciplinary project seminars, which enables you to apply your acquired knowledge in practice. The networking of the Art Theory degree course with the museums, galleries and other art and cultural institutions in Kassel and the surrounding area also contributes to this, where you can gain your first professional experience as part of an internship and gain an overview of the various paths that arts student can take after their studies. With its large museum density, which includes not only the institutions of the Museum Landscape Hessen Kassel but also the Fridericianum as an exhibition location for contemporary art, Kassel also offers prospective art students the ideal conditions for a lively exploration of the diversity of art as a study location, with the documenta taking place every five years. Part-time study is quite possible due to the course of study in this degree programme. Upon request, you can register for part-time studies in accordance with Section 19 (2) Hesse Higher Education Act (HessHG). The specific provisions for part-time studies will then apply. Counselling by the subject-specific student advice service is recommended.
