Annotation
Scenic painting is an important component of contemporary theatre, concert and film productions, urban interior design and modern exhibition concepts. Graduates of Scenic Painting in Dresden are represented internationally as stage, theatre and set painters for, for example, opera houses, musicals, film sets and façade and interior design. The aim of the course is to develop artistic and technical skills for the confident design and implementation of painting concepts. The development of independent scenic work requires a wide range of knowledge in the technological design tools of material and illusion, as well as the accompanying theory of anatomy, architecture, art history, theatre studies and philosophy. Building on drawing, painting and sculptural foundations, the subject-specific degree course teaches students how to work with design techniques for film and theatre and their effect in specific spatial and lighting situations. Dresden University of Fine Arts has a well-equipped laboratory theatre and large-scale studios, in which students can test their ideas within projects both in cooperation with other degree courses at the university and in cooperation with national and international partners (universities, theatres and museums).
