Studying in Wiesbaden

Wiesbaden offers you 12 degree programmes in English at 6 higher education institutions.

To be honest: if you are a party person, you will likely head to the neighbouring cities of Mainz and Frankfurt from time to time. Afterwards, you can truly relax in Wiesbaden by enjoying the sophisticated architecture, tasting a sip of healing water and taking a leisurely ride on the historic funicular up the Neroberg. This and much more makes the capital of the federal state of Hesse extremely livable.

Wiesbaden - the city between the rivers Rhine and the Main - is diverse and charming. Around 280,000 inhabitants, including almost 14,000 students, lend Wiesbaden its cosy at heart big-town feel. The capital of Hesse has nearly 30 thermal and mineral springs that reach a temperature of up to 67°C. It is not for nothing that Wiesbaden calls itself the "City of Hot Springs" and a "World Health Resort".

If you like strolling through galleries or spending your free time in beautiful parks, Wiesbaden is the place for you! The large “Kurpark” with extensive green spaces, magnificent historical buildings and beautiful museums and galleries with famous collections gives the city a sophisticated flair. In the old town of Wiesbaden, affectionately known as "Schiffchen" because of its outline on the map (it looks like a small boat), you can stroll through narrow and winding alleys; here you will find inviting cafés, restaurants and shops. The Goldgasse is known for its limitless restaurant offerings and is the perfect meeting place for gourmets. For shopping, the best place is Kirchgasse. On the Rheinaue and in the Schlosspark you can relax with friends after a hectic day.

Feels like a vacation: summer, sand and a view of Mainz from Kastel beach

Goethe and Wagner already stayed at the spa town of Wiesbaden and relaxed in the hot springs.

Do you prefer to relieve stress by being active? Active students can expect a great range of sports with numerous facilities and gyms. Whether it's football, tennis or golf, you'll find a new hobby here too! Some students from Wiesbaden can also use the sports facilities at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

Or do you like to spend time in nature and look for the best viewpoints? More than a quarter of Wiesbaden's urban area is covered by forests. Many students meet at the beautiful Monopteros Temple on the 245-metre-high Neroberg. From here, enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the Rhine-Main region, all the way to the Odenwald. You can reach the place comfortably by cable car. In addition to the Neroberg, Schierstein harbour is a very popular destination for students. Here on the riverbanks there are numerous cafés and restaurants where you can spend time with your friends.

Wiesbaden is considered a beauty among cities. And rightly so: the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, with its magnificent halls and imposing columns, is one of the city's most famous sights, and the beautiful Biebrich Palace is considered the "gateway to the Rheingau". Take a boat trip with friends to discover the Middle Rhine region with its many castles and picturesque wine villages.

Because Wiesbaden is in the middle of the Rheingau wine-growing region, the Rheingau Wine Week takes place here every year. Colourful events such as the Rheingau Music Festival, the Theatrium (also known as Wilhelmstraßenfest) and several Christmas markets spread good cheer in the city, which you shouldn't miss. Part of student life is partying and going out! Nearby Mainz and Frankfurt certainly have the livelier party and club scene, but Wiesbaden also has pubs and bars where you can dance with other students until the early hours of the morning, sometimes to live music.

Rents in Wiesbaden are fairly affordable, but the housing situation is rather tight. Popular neighbourhoods for students are the Rheingauviertel, the city centre and the Westend because of the relatively low rents. Public transport consists of buses; there is no tram or underground. The best way to get to your next destination is by bike.
