Studying in Trossingen

Trossingen offers you degree programmes at 1 higher education institution.

If you want to study music in a picturesque and intimate setting of the Black Forest region, consider the town of Trossingen. There you can visit historic buildings, churches, interesting museums, or music festivals. But is that all? Of course not! In the summers you can take a swim at Gauger lake outside of town or hike on one of the countless paths in the nearby Swabian Alb.

In Trossingen, with its approximately 18,000 inhabitants, there is exactly one higher education institution, the University of Music Trossingen. If you study here, you can be sure that you will always be surrounded by people who are just as enthusiastic about music as you are. The university is not only a place of teaching and innovation (keyword AI) but also offers a broad musical programme to the entire region with more than 400 events a year.

Trossingen is a small town with a cosy feel. The distances are short and it will be easy for you to find an affordable room – but: the nightlife is, of course, not as spontaneous and varied as in larger cities. This is not to say that the city is always sleepy! Traditional markets such as the Krämermarkt at Pentecost or the Kilbemarkt in September attract visitors from out of town. Here you can stroll among colourful stalls, sample delicacies or listen to live music. And in December, don't miss the Christmas market. It may not be big and touristy, but it is organised by the locals with great attention to detail. The whole town is decked out with romantic Christmas lights to bring you into a festive mood.

The next generation of musical talent is emerging here!

Trossingen might be best known for music, but it is also one of the world's largest dinosaur sites of the Triassic period.

Trossingen is located on the Baar, a plateau between the Swabian Alb and the Black Forest - and therefore exactly between two popular holiday regions in Germany. If you like impressive castles and palaces, turn towards the Swabian Alb. Here, one medieval monument follows the next: Hohenzollern, Hohenstaufen, Teck Castle and many more. Or you can enjoy nature in the Black Forest with its gorges, waterfalls and forests. While it’s possible to reach everything in the city by bike or on foot, other excursions - such as to the Black Forest, the Swabian Alb or even Switzerland - are easier to do by car.

But you don't have to go far to spend time in nature and relax. For cooling off on hot summer days, Trossingen has the Gauger lake and the TROASE natural swimming centre. The TROASE does not use any chemicals - no red eyes after swimming! - and was constructed in harmony with nature with many natural materials.

While you will find everything you need in Trossingen (be it shopping or a nice pub), you might want to get out for more variety. For instance, head to Villingen-Schwenningen or towards Lake Constance. You will quickly succumb to the historical flair of Villingen-Schwenningen with its almost completely preserved town wall, the mighty fortified towers guarding the old city gates, traditional half-timbered houses and romantic winding alleys. Or have you ever heard of Fasnet? It's the traditional Black Forest equivalent of the Rhineland carnival. The best place to go for this is nearby Rottweil, because the people of Rottweil are known for their traditional and wild revelry. You can't compare it to the party carnival in the Rhineland: Here it is still apparent that it was once all about driving away the long and cold winter.
