Studying in Rosenheim

Rosenheim offers you 7 degree programmes in English at 1 higher education institution.

Mountains, lakes, and Bavarian sociability: Rosenheim offers all of this. The Alps, the famous Lake Chiemsee and many smaller swimming lakes are close by. In the partially car-free historic town centre you can stroll through shops and stop for a bite to eat in quaint or fancier restaurants. And if you want to breathe some metropolitan air: Munich and Salzburg can both be reached by train in less than one hour.

Rosenheim is a small town in Upper Bavaria, in the south-east of Germany. Two rivers meet in the city: the Inn and the Mangfall. The architectural style of the buildings and squares might remind you a little of Italy – which is quite typical of the Bavarian towns along the Inn. This is most obvious at Max-Josefs-Platz, Rosenheim's pedestrian zone with many shops, but also cafés and quaint restaurants, all of which put out their tables and chairs in summer. There you can sit in the sun, enjoy a cappuccino or a lager beer (in German a “Helles” which is often enjoyed in Upper Bavaria) and do a bit of people watching.

Another beautiful spot in town is Mangfallpark, which was reopened for the State Garden Show 2010. This event very much improved the town’s look and feel: Some streets close to the centre were redesigned, underground streams were partly uncovered and formerly rather unattractive parks got transformed into popular places for young and old. In addition, an annual summer festival has been held since then, at which well-known and international bands and acts perform.

The industry in the city of Rosenheim and the surrounding region is strong. Rosenheim lies in the centre of the Alpine Arc super region, one of the EU super regions with the strongest economic growth. Also, the major cities of Munich and Salzburg are close by and can be reached by train in less than an hour.

If you enjoy being out and about in nature, you'll find what you are looking for here!

Although Rosenheim is home to only about 65,000 people, it's a better place to shop and go out than you might expect.

Tradition is very important in Rosenheim, and you can experience Bavarian customs in many places and situations. You will especially notice the Upper Bavarian dialect, which is spoken here by the young and old. At first it might take some getting used to, but don't worry: Soon you will quite naturally greet people with the typical Bavarian "Servus" or "Grüß Gott". You will also find thriving and unchanged traditions at many festivals in Rosenheim. For example, at the Rosenheim Autumn Festival, the small counterpart to the Munich Oktoberfest, which always takes place for a fortnight in August/September and is considered the city's fifth season. Almost everyone wears lederhosen and dirndls then and enjoys fast-paced carousel rides, roasted almonds or a Maß (a litre of beer) and half a "Hendl" (chicken) in one of the two beer tents.

Attention outdoor fans: In Rosenheim and the surrounding area you can pursue sports activities all year round. The nearby foothills of the Alps with famous mountains such as the Kampenwand or the Wendelstein invite you to go skiing or snowboarding in winter, but ski tours or hikes with snowshoes are of course also possible. And in the summer, go hiking or biking and take a break at one of the rustic mountain huts (a “Hütte” is often a combination pub/hostel). Water sports enthusiasts will also find what they are looking for: surf or sail on the nearby Chiemsee. Of course, you can also swim there, but you don't have to go that far. Around Rosenheim, you'll find many lakes that can be reached by bike, such as the Happinger Ausee, where you can spend beautiful summer days with your fellow students.

Speaking of fellow students: Rosenheim has a technical university of applied sciences that is known throughout Germany for its wood technology courses. But you can also study other technical subjects there, as well as courses in the fields of business, design, health and social work. And: Most trains coming from Munich even stop directly at the university's own station.
