Studying in Kempten

Kempten offers you 4 degree programmes in English at 1 higher education institution.

Do you want to study in a tranquil yet versatile place? Welcome to the small city of Kempten in Allgäu – not far from the Alps and the natural beauties of southern Germany. Events such as the Allgäu Festival Week await you here as well as sports and leisure activities. It's notable that the small town of Kempten is said to be the first Roman town in Germany to be mentioned in writings. Come and take a look yourself!

Fresh air, nature and sport activities during your studies can do you good and even increase your learning success. So why not study in a holiday region? The cosy and comfortable Kempten with its 70,000 inhabitants is quite tranquil – but by no means boring. There is plenty to do in the region of Allgäu:

At the foot of the Alps with several lakes nearby, you can leave the daily routine of studying behind for a while and go hiking, climbing or mountain biking. There are also toboggan runs in the summer and plenty of snow and winter sports in the winter. And if you're thinking that the Alps are too tough for you, there's something here for every level of difficulty and every taste! But even in the middle of the city you can stroll along the Iller river or relax in one of the many parks. Not only will you return to your next class with fresh energy, but you will also enjoy an effortless transition from your studies to your free time. All in all, Kempten offers a high quality of life.

The farmers' market on Hildegardplatz: here you can buy regional produce.

In the Allgäu region around Kempten it is often sunnier than in the rest of Swabia!

Kempten has one university of applied sciences with six departments, at which around 6,000 students are enrolled. Here, everything is usually a bit quieter, but also more personal: You can enjoy a campus with short distances, practice-oriented and individual teaching, as well as direct contact with your lecturers – not only during your studies, by the way! Once a year, the unique Profs Night is held nearby. Here, not only the playlists of your professors are played, but they sometimes stand at the DJ booth themselves and announce their songs.

The welcoming people here also like to celebrate and readily combine everyday life, work and socialising. This is also the case during the Allgäu Festival Week. The largest business fair in the region also manages to mix in art and culture. In a cosy Bavarian atmosphere, you can find out about job opportunities and companies or simply have fun with your friends. Here, at the latest, it's time to slip into a traditional Bavarian outfit.

With regard to culture, the numerous events in Kempten, such as concerts, readings or cabaret performances, provide entertainment – and if you're in the mood for history, you can admire the Roman treasures to be found in the museums. With the Jazz Spring in Kempten, numerous musicians usher in the warm days with well over 50 concerts and various styles. And at the international Dance Autumn Festival you can warm up again at the many dance workshops before winter sets in.

Kempten is a tourist region, but the cost of living is still low compared to larger cities and the housing market is somewhat more relaxed. On the other hand, you may spend more money than usual on leisure activities or on transport to the mountains.

In Kempten itself, you can easily get everywhere on foot or by bike, including to the farmers market, which takes place several times a week. With regional products from the Allgäu or nearby Italy, you can conjure up wonderful Bavarian and international dishes.
