Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, a UNESCO World Heritage site, attracts many visitors.

You should visit the Caricatura Museum! Great for cartoon lovers and all those who enjoy the intersection of art and humour.

If spending time in the green outdoors is your idea of a break from learning and studying, then Kassel is the place to be. The city sports a boast-worthy collection of natural attractions and historical sites: we’ve already made brief mention of Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, the UNESCO world heritage site in Kassel. This is not just a conventional park as it also contains the 9m tall Hercules statue, Löwenburg (the reconstructed castle ruins from the Middle Ages), botanical gardens, as well as a large greenhouse with tropical flora and fauna. Wilhelmshöhe Palace is also located here – it is a museum with valuable antiques, paintings and artefacts related to the building’s construction 200 years ago. Modern art is also on display in changing exhibitions. The park is an enjoyable and relaxing place to visit after a long week and due to the great variety of sites contained inside the park, you will return often to take it all in.

The Karlsaue park in Kassel, laid out by Landgrave Karl over 300 years ago, is the perfect spot to hang out and lie back right by the River Fulda. There is plenty of space to relax on over 150 hectares - for example on the large lawn in front of the orangery. The park is also ideal for jogging or yoga. Not only is it a meeting place for students, you can also meet raccoons there in the evening – city marketing even made the cute little animals an integral part of their messaging. The Karlsaue is a regular venue for festivals and parties - there's always something going on here!

The aforementioned River Fulda gives the city a special flair, meandering charmingly around the centre and flowing along the Karlsaue park. On the banks of the river you will find plenty of beer gardens, bars and green meadows that are perfect for decrompressing. The riverside promenade is a popular hub, not only for locals but also for visitors - and a meeting place for water sports fans. Boathouses line the banks and offer plenty of opportunities to let off steam on the water. The Fulda is therefore not only pretty to look at, but also a lively place for leisure and recreation.

Kassel is closely associated with the Brothers Grimm, who lived and worked here. You probably know their fairy tales: Cinderella, Snow White and many others. In the Grimmwelt, a modern and interactive museum, visitors can learn both familiar and unfamiliar facts about the life and work of the famous brothers. Even if you have no interest in fairy tale research, it might be worth a visit: events, such as open bars or yoga, take place regularly on the roof of the museum. From up there, you also have a breathtaking view over the Kassel “Weinberg”, a park area with vineyards and terraces.
