Studying in Kamp-Lintfort

Kamp-Lintfort offers you 9 degree programmes in English at 1 higher education institution.

Just like the nearby Ruhr area, Kamp-Lintfort was shaped by the mining industry for most of its rather short history. Now, the coal mine is closed and remnants attract fans of industrial culture. Additionally, a new higher education institution was erected, and students now enrol in partly unique programmes taught in brand-new buildings. The green surrounding especially attracts nature and sports lovers.

Today, Kamp-Lintfort is a medium-sized city with a modern infrastructure. After the decline of coal mining, the city has successfully mastered structural change and now presents itself as a future-oriented location for technology, logistics - and higher education. The new focus of the city also includes the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. It is still young but is developing at a rapid pace into an innovative and, above all, international higher education institution. Around half of the students come from abroad - which will make it easier for you to quickly make new friends. The new modern campus is located right in the heart of the city and is easy to reach from anywhere. If you stay in one of the student dormitories near the campus, you only need to cross a small bridge and you are already there - so you can sleep a little longer in the morning.

The city is compact and can be easily explored by bike or on foot. There are green spaces everywhere that invite you to take a walk. If you want to exercise a little more vigorously, let the idyllic landscape of fields and forests outside the city encourage you to go for a bike ride or a hike. Many well-marked trails such as the NiederRheinroute or the Baumkreisroute lead to the most beautiful places in the region.

A vibrant campus life

The old factory housing estate Friedrich Heinrich was once built for miners and their families and still offers a high quality of living and many green spaces.

Anyone who likes to go shopping or simply needs to run errands will definitely find what they are looking for in the city centre. The modernised pedestrian zone offers a wide selection of large chains and independent stores. Many small cafés and bakeries invite you to relax and linger after lectures. In the evenings and at night, the city is rather quiet with only a few bars and pubs - if you are looking for more choice or want to party in a club, the much larger city of Moers is close by.

The most famous highlight of the city is Kamp Monastery from 1123. Once one of the most important religious art and cultural sites in the region, the monastery was dissolved in 1802 under the rule of Napoleon. In the treasury, guests can still experience its centuries-long history, along with all its ups and downs. In the beautiful terrace garden, which is part of the monastery, various events are also held throughout the year against a historical backdrop, such as a music festival, an open-air theatre or the Christmas market.

Mining was especially important for the history of the city. If you are interested in that, you can stop by the mining plant park in the south of the city. The former industrial area is now a large nature park with historical buildings and a zoo. In addition to a visit to the museum, you can also take a guided tour and go underground yourself.

Today, technology and logistics are among the most important regional sectors. The job market in Kamp-Lintfort itself is rather limited. But in the nearby big cities such as Duisburg or Düsseldorf you will definitely find enough offers, whether for a future career or for an internship during your studies. In return, you will benefit from above-average low-living costs in Kamp-Lintfort and can thus finance your studies on a smaller budget.
