With the Bundesgartenschau 2019 and an expansion of study options in recent years, Heilbronn in the north of Baden-Württemberg has become an attractive place to study. Located directly on the Neckar River and surrounded by vineyards, the region offers many leisure activities. And due to the region’s economic power, there are several great career options for you – during and after your studies.
You'll feel right at home here. Heilbronn combines big-city vibes with Swabian cosiness amid vineyards. It is known as the "Tuscany of Southern Germany". The mild climate has made Heilbronn one of the oldest wine towns in Württemberg, with around 30 vineyards. Whether you want to take a relaxed walk through the vines, enjoy the view with a glass of wine in your hand or try a regional wine - you should definitely make a trip to a Besenwirtschaft or "Besa"; these are the rustic eateries of the vineyards themselves, where you can taste Maultaschen or other hearty regional delicacies to go with the wine. Typical Swabian dishes include lentils with spaetzle and sausages or Flädlesuppe.
If you like to shop locally, check out the market in front of the town hall. It takes place three times a week in the open air and offers fresh food directly from the producers. The town hall, like most of the city's historic buildings, was destroyed during the Second World War and later rebuilt. Even though this makes the cityscape look rather young overall, these replicas also create an important piece of Heilbronn's identity. In addition to the town hall with its beautiful arcades, the Kilianskirche is also one of the city's landmarks.
