A breath of sea air and a good bit of adventure right on the North Sea coast: in Bremerhaven, you can immerse yourself in the maritime world of seafaring and shipyard work. But the city at the mouth of the Weser has much more to offer: In addition to scientific research and the energy transition, culture and entertainment are also important. Here, warmth and quality of life displace any boredom!
Bremerhaven is located at the mouth of the Weser River on the German North Sea coast and is situated in the small federal state of Bremen. With a population of well over 100,000, Bremerhaven is the only major German city on the North Sea – but with a small-town feel. Much revolves around the maritime world here. Through the harbour, not only shipping trade has always been an integral part of the city's history, but also migration to and from Europe. For a long time, the city was an important emigration port. This early exchange with other countries has shaped the city’s open and tolerant attitude; people from over 130 nations live here! And large ships continue to dock at the port.
Bremerhaven’s University of Applied Sciences has around 2,700 students. This smaller size guarantees a comfortable environment in which personalised learning and extensive support are possible. Your needs and your learning success won’t be neglected. Several internationally renowned scientific institutions are also located here, which focus on e.g. climate protection. This gives you exciting options for internships or theses. Climate protection is not just dealt with as an abstract scientific topic, but is emphasised throughout the region, just look at the large offshore wind power centre.
